What is geo-routing?

Geo-routing sends each incoming call to the team nearest the caller. Nimbata does it two ways. By caller ID, it reads the first digits of the caller's number, a country code or an area code, and rings the team for that place. By keypad code, a short greeting asks the caller for their ZIP code, and the team for that code picks up.

Caller ID is automatic, but a mobile number's area code may not be where the caller is today. A ZIP code says exactly where they are, at the cost of a short prompt.

How does geo-routing work?

The caller dials one number. The nearest team answers.

  1. A call comes in

Someone calls the number on your ad, listing or website, from wherever they are.

    1Ring

  2. Nimbata knows where they are

From the first digits of their number, or from the ZIP code they key in when asked.

    2Locate

  3. The nearest team picks up

Your Chicago team's phone rings, not head office's, and the call is still tracked to the ad that drove it.

Every caller reaches the team that serves them

One number on your ads, a local team behind it in every region.

  • No menu, no wait

Callers are routed by their number the moment they call, so the nearest team picks up without a single prompt.

  • Right, even on a mobile

Ask for a ZIP code, and callers reach the team where they are today, not where their phone number is from.

  • A whole state at once

Cover every Texas area code in one go. TX stands for all 28 of them.

  • Local exceptions win

Give Austin its own team and the rest of Texas another. The closest match always wins.

  • Keep out countries you don't serve

Calls from a country you choose, such as Germany, end before they ring anyone. Everyone else connects as usual.

  • A second chance for hidden numbers

Callers who hide their number hear a message asking them to call back with it shown. Real leads do, robocalls don't.

Where each caller went

From the first ring to the right team

What happens on every call, before anyone picks up.

  1. The call arrives

    Nimbata reads where they are

From their number, or the ZIP code they key in.

  2. The same moment

    The closest match wins

Callers with no match go to the team you choose, such as your main office.

  3. After the call

    Every call keeps its story

Its source, campaign, ZIP code and the team it reached, in your call log.

Geo-Swap vs Geo-Routing

One picks the number your visitor sees, the other picks the phone that rings. Many teams use both.

Frequently asked questions

What is geo-routing?

Geo-routing sends each incoming call to the team nearest the caller. In Nimbata it's part of your call flow, either by the caller's number or by the ZIP code they enter.

Should I route by caller ID or by keypad code?

By caller ID is automatic and callers hear no menu, but a mobile number's area code may not be where the caller is. By keypad code, callers enter their ZIP code after a short greeting, so they reach the team where they are, at the cost of one prompt.

How do I set it up?

In Call handling > Call Flows, add a Caller ID Prefix filter or a Keypad Entry step after a greeting, give each branch its prefixes or codes and its team, and assign the flow to your tracking numbers. Step by step in the Help Center.

How do I type a caller ID prefix?

Up to 10 digits, country code first, with no plus. 1312 is Chicago's 312 area code and 44 is the UK. You can also type a US state code such as TX, or anonymous.

Which codes can callers enter?

Codes of 2 to 9 digits, such as ZIP codes or area codes. Send several codes to one team, set up to 100 routes, and choose where any other code, or no code at all, goes.

What if a number matches more than one prefix?

The call takes the branch with the longest prefix its number starts with. If 1512 has a branch of its own, Austin callers go there, even with TX on another branch.

Can I block calls from a country?

Yes. Put its country code on a Caller ID Prefix branch and switch that branch's step to Hang up under Instead.

How is geo-routing different from Geo-Swap?

Geo-Swap changes the tracking number your website shows, by the visitor's location. Geo-routing changes where a call rings, by the caller's number or the code they enter. You can use both.

Do routed calls keep their source?

Yes. Geo-routing only decides where the call rings. Each call is still tracked to the source and campaign that drove it, and a keypad code is saved as Digits pressed by caller.

Which plans include geo-routing?

Routing by caller ID is on the Marketing and Agency plans. Routing by keypad code is on the Pro, Marketing and Agency plans.
