Should I choose a local number or a toll-free number?

It depends on how callers perceive you. Local numbers tend to win for service-area businesses (e.g. HVAC, home services, healthcare, multi-location franchises) because the area code looks familiar and answer rates are higher. Toll-free is the better pick for national brands where customers might be calling from anywhere and you want a single, memorable point of contact.
