Setup Nimbata call tracking in 4 easy steps

By Barbara Wade / January 15, 2020 February 15, 2021
call tracking powerful add-ons

Setting up call tracking shouldn’t be difficult. Having this in mind, we designed an easy process for Nimbata to make it easy for anyone to set it up on their website. In fact, Nimbata can be up and running on your website in less than ten minutes. So, you can measure calls as easily as clicks, with no programming or advanced technical skills required.

Here are the four easy steps you need to follow in order to setup Nimbata call tracking:

Setup Nimbata

1) Generate tracking phone numbers

The first step is to generate unique phone numbers via the Nimbata app, which can be used for as long as you wish. These can be either local or toll-free numbers that closely reflect your business’s actual phone number. On the other hand, if you used an alternative tracking solution in the past and would like to retain those phone numbers, you can request to keep these. It takes approximately 3 to 15 days for the Nimbata app to port them over to your account.

Wondering how many tracking numbers should you use? As many as you wish! If you want to track only the broad marketing channels such as AdWords, Facebook Advertising, or LinkedIn you may only need a relatively small pool of numbers. But supposing you want to track at a more granular level, looking at particular ad groups and campaigns, then you should use enough phone numbers to assign a unique identifier for each.

2) Setup where the calls will be forwarded to

Time to set up where those phone calls will be forwarded to. You can choose to have calls forwarded to a specific store location, a call center, or even a mobile phone number. And the customer’s experience on this is completely seamless. They will interact with these tracking numbers, in the same way as they do with your existing phone number. In addition to this, the devices that phone calls are routed to can be changed on a minute by minute basis.

Common use cases for this include:

  • Diverting calls to a different employee when a team member is on leave.
  • Having your tracking numbers diverted to a retail location during working hours but then diverted to a central call center in after hours.
  • Using a business line during the day then a mobile phone during after-hours.
Set up Destination Numbers

Finally, you can choose to have your phone calls diverted on a “round-robin” basis. In this case, phone calls are diverted to the first phone number in the chain. If this isn’t answered, then the call is diverted to the next phone number in the sequence. This is a great way of ensuring that your phone calls always get answered.

3) Place the tracking numbers on ads or campaigns you wish to track

Afterward, you should assign the tracking numbers to the specific marketing channels you want to track. Once a phone number has been connected to a particular marketing source, any call generated from that source will be tracked. You don’t need to change the phone numbers on your website, because this is performed dynamically by the Nimbata app.

4) Add the Nimbata pixel

One major benefit of Nimbata over other call tracking solutions is that integrating with your website is extremely straightforward. This means that you only need to add a single line of code to your website in order to start. And there are three possible ways to do it:

Nimbata WordPress plugin: Nimbata provides its own official plugin. If you are using a WordPress website, then this will typically be the fastest and easiest way to setup Nimbata.

To integrate Nimbata using the plugin follow these steps:

1. Download the Nimbata plugin from the WordPress directory.
2. Once installed, activate the plugin.
3. From the settings menu select Nimbata.
4. Add your DNI ID that has been provided by Nimbata.

Set up DNI script

Google Tag Manager (GTM): GTM allows you to install Nimbata call tracking without touching the source code. If you have GTM already in place you simply need to setup Nimbata as a tag.

DIY: Finally, you also have the option of adding the one-line code snippet directly to the source code of your website. This is a good option if you aren’t using WordPress or Google Tag Manager on your website.

Once done, Nimbata will start to dynamically swap your website’s phone numbers with the tracking numbers that you generated in step #1.

What is more, every time a user lands on the website they will continue to be tracked via cookies. This allows you to attribute a conversion to a phone call even if they do not immediately convert.

5) You are all set!

Now you are going to enjoy the fruits of your “labor”- metaphorically speaking of course! Nimbata makes it simple to analyze data with a range of dashboards and reports, while you can also use filters to isolate key data points. Most importantly you can determine which of your marketing sources are delivering prospects and sales.

Nimbata also integrates with many other popular applications, among Google Ads and Google Analytics. By integrating Nimbata with Google Ads you can immediately view phone calls as conversions within your Google Ads dashboard. Call conversions will be automatically attributed to the correct campaigns, ad groups, and keywords.

Integrating with Google Analytics only takes a few minutes and once complete you can see within your dashboard which sources are generating phone calls.

Now you know how easy it is to setup Nimbata and how useful it is to finely target your marketing, there is really no excuse! You can try Nimbata for free, without even providing your credit card details. So why not see what a difference having call tracking in place can have for your business?
